7 Best 45 ACP Revolvers

.45 ACP revolvers are creating headlines within the community of firearms enthusiasts.

These powerful sidearms, competing with 9 mm and standard .45 colt cartridges alike, can pack quite a punch and provide efficient precision at distance.

Let us show you the best .45 ACP revolvers of the year, so before they’re gone, you can grab the best one.

We’ll cover some significant characteristics of the .45 ACP before we get to the list and what you can look for while purchasing one.

How accurate is the ACP Revolver .45?

With a maximum productive range of around 200 yards, a .45 ACP revolver is very precise, beyond which precision would decline dramatically.

This makes it easy for the .45 ACP to compete with modern firearms utilizing 9 mm or .45 Colt cartridges.

The biggest appeal of the .45 ACP revolver, though, is the improved stopping capacity for certain handguns that comes without adding too much muzzle flash or recoil.

The .45 ACP also provides more recoil than certain sidearms of 9 mm, but your ability to regulate the kick of the round very much defines its performance.

For .45 ACP precision, the weight and balance of your revolver would matter more than most guns.

Why are these the strongest of the year?

Because of these 3 elements, these .45 ACP revolvers are the strongest of the year:

Convenience

All of our .45 ACP revolvers are comfortable weapons and can be used in applications for defense or target practice.

In order to project rounds to their optimum precision, user comfort is of vital importance since .45 ACP revolvers need good handling and balance.

Before you finalize an order, evaluate the general convenience of any .45 ACP revolver.

Best 45 ACP Revolver

Features & Accessories

Great revolvers are still going to have great characteristics.

These involve barrel additions to enhance precision or elimination of noise, sights, enlarged barrels, protective engagements, and so on.

The more characteristics you have, the more your revolver will be customized to your particular desires and patterns of use.

There are phenomenal features on all the .45 ACP revolvers on our list that render them deserving of your time and resources.

Quality & Materials

You may not want to buy an ACP revolver in .45 which is not constructed of high-quality materials.

You have to buy a revolver that is designed to last and designed of a metal that, despite continuous usage, will offer good performance.

Many of our list of .45 revolvers are constructed of sturdy materials and all have finishes or touches that render them much nicer.

The Best .45 ACP Revolvers Review

Let’s dig into the review now that we’ve covered a bunch of context info:

Best .45 ACP Revolver: SMITH & WESSON 637

Pros

  • High quality materials
  • Very lightweight
  • Super easy to handle

Cons

  • None

Best .45 ACP Revolver – What recent users say?

Most recently, those who have used this .45 ACP revolver confirmed that it is a solid firearm with phenomenal quality.

The handgrip is exceptionally secure and every pull of the trigger is smooth and reliable.

If you have smaller than normal hands, the ability to hit the safety or cock the hammer back without needing to lift your thumb ensures it’s an easy gun to use.

What makes it one of the Best .45 ACP Revolvers?

Its durability lets this revolver stand out. You will use it for different purposes whether you are able to swap out various barrel lengths or buy a revolver with different barrels.

For target shooting and for hitting objectives at a distance, longer barrels will be better, whereas a shorter barrel will make the revolver easy to carry and safer for self-defense.

For whom is this .45 ACP Revolver best suited?

Using this .45 ACP revolver will cater to nearly everyone.

It boasts a great look and a sturdy frame of stainless steel that will certainly endure for a long time to come.

Since it’s so easy to use and can work into a range of situations, we would suggest it to anybody who appreciates a bit more stopping power in their revolver as a serious sidearm.

Verdict: Best .45 ACP Revolver

Designed to a superior quality, this powerful .45 ACP revolver is worth every dime.

You can’t go wrong with picking up one of these revolvers in the barrel size of your choosing if you have the cash to spare.

If you have a gunsmith who can make upgrades at a discount price, you might pick up a pair of spare barrels.

Best .45 Snub-Nose ACP Revolver: SMITH & WESSON 642

Pros

  • Great finish
  • Textured grip for stable handling
  • Very accurate

Cons

  • None

Best .45 Snub-Nose ACP Revolver – What recent users say?

Many that have had a chance to try out this .45 ACP revolver say that it excels at shorter ranges but struggles as soon as you start pressing it past the 100-yard mark as a short-range, self-defense tool.

Although most .45 ACP revolvers will reliably exceed 200 yards, in the range department, the mediocre sight and short barrel don’t do this pistol any favors.

However, it’s still an impressive short-range or close-quarter firearm.

What makes it one of the Best .45 ACP Revolvers?

As the premier snub-nosed range of .45 ACP revolvers we’d like to showcase, this captured our eye.

The short barrel length does not help with range, but it makes it incredibly fast and quick to draw this weapon.

When you are using this revolver as a self-defense tool against an intruder close in front of you, the scope often does not matter.

We also really like the nitride finish that gives an old-fashioned look to the revolver and will guard it over time against damage.

For whom is this .45 ACP Revolver best suited?

This revolver should be tested out by anyone interested in a top-tier, self-defence firearm.

Bear in mind that, as opposed to the usual six, it only carries five bullets, so you might need to reload more often than you are used to.

But a little practice should allow you to get used to the weight and other quirks of this firearm before long.

Verdict: Best .45 Snub-Nose ACP Revolver

This is a remarkable .45 ACP self-defense revolver that in a life or death scenario will provide the stopping power and flexibility you might need.

It’s so quick to handle, and it doesn’t weigh enough to make it difficult to aim.

For that purpose, including for anyone with smaller hands or weaker arms, we can suggest it.

Best Value .45 ACP Revolver: SMITH & WESSON MODEL 637

Pros

  • Very small size
  • Great for concealed carry
  • Nice design

Cons

  • Quite a bit of recoil

Best Value .45 ACP Revolver – What recent users say?

Latest users of this .45 ACP revolver say that when the firing pin continues to function properly, it delivers consistent performance and decent stopping strength.

Several users have stated that the firing pin does not often hit with adequate force to eject the projectile from the barrel.

After buying this revolver, you will need to visit a gunsmith to guarantee that its performance won’t fail at a crucial moment.

What makes it one of the Best .45 ACP Revolvers?

This is one of the most convenient to use and one of the most suitable as a self-defence firearm, as .45 ACP revolvers go.

As it would be easy to draw and hard to drop, the small size of the barrel and the synthetic handgrip are also ideal for use as a protective sidearm.

This is a great defense tool, as long as the firing pin does not cause you any trouble.

For whom is this .45 ACP Revolver best suited?

With this .45 ACP revolver, anyone in need of an outstanding protective sidearm can find a lot to appreciate.

Thanks to its compact weight, the grip is very simple to use and the silver finish renders it distinctive.

Once holstered on your waist, if they see what you are armed with, it’s likely to discourage any would-be attackers.

It can pack quite a punch, considering its small size.

Verdict: Best Value .45 ACP Revolver

For home security enthusiasts or anyone who want a sidearm which can halt any intruder in their tracks, this protective .45 ACP revolver is a perfect pick.

Only be sure that after buying, the model you get has a firing pin that will bring in the effort required to guarantee performance.

It functions while providing precision and controlled shooting for both moon clips and speedloaders.

For whom is this .45 ACP Revolver best suited?

The Thunder Ranch was planned to be a weapon for tactical defending.

It can, however, even be used for target practice, enjoyable shooting and contests.

The revolver’s broad frame size disqualifies it as a CCW, but utilizing moon clips and/or speedloaders, it can also be used as an efficient firearm for self-defense.

Verdict: Best Self Defense .45 ACP Revolver

The HERITAGE ROUGH RIDER is an awesome revolver chambered in the famous 45 ACP, precise and powerful.

It has a clean pull for the trigger, interchangeable sights and a removable rail for accessories.

But, for practical reasons, the arm may be geared up.

The price will, however, serve as a restricting factor on a budget for buyers.

Best Target Shooting .45 ACP Revolver: Ruger Vaquero Blued

Ruger Vaquero Blued

Pros

  • Fast & easy loading possible
  • Very long lifespan
  • Good accuracy

Cons

  • Not the best grip

Best Target Shooting .45 ACP Revolver – What recent users say?

This .45 ACP revolver’s most recent users say it makes them feel like an old western cowboy.

Given the name of the revolver, this is suitable.

It is styled much like the old sidearms and has a sleek handle and unique silhouette that will definitely attract attention.

It’s a consistent weapon with lots of potential uses, most users say.

What makes it one of the Best .45 ACP Revolvers?

The look of this .45 ACP revolver and its affordability make it stand out in our eyes.

It is indeed an impressive-looking gun, but it also has a lovely blued finish that will improve its lifespan and inspire durability.

It is good to have an unintended discharge guard, as well.

For whom is this .45 ACP Revolver best suited?

This .45 ACP pistol would be always enjoyed by those who invest their time on the prairies or in the deserts and who have the uniform to match.

It’s also pretty decent at hitting targets at a shot, but target shooters who like the feel and sound of .45 ammo will love the shooting range with this revolver.

You’ll be able to more accurately hit targets at a distance than with a snub-nosed revolver.

Verdict: Best Target Shooting .45 ACP Revolver

A perfect option for firearms enthusiasts and target shooters is this stylish .45 ACP revolver.

It can serve as a self-defense tool, but before you decide to rely on it, we will suggest that you practice your drawing.

The long barrel and the finicky handle will make it tough to hurry up to a lot of your holster.

Best Double Action .45 ACP Revolver: Taurus Judge Magnum Blued

Taurus Judge Magnum Blued

Pros

  • Very convenient handling
  • Good size
  • Great materials

Cons

  • 5 round capacity

Best Double Action .45 ACP Revolver – What recent users say?

The new users of this .45 ACP revolver claim that it is mounted between the same weapon’s snub-nosed and longer-barreled versions.

As a consequence, with these styles of revolvers, it will have adequate precision that you can get up to the 200-yard maximum efficient range, but in the recoil department it is a little unhandy.

This pistol can only be considered for people with plenty of experience with revolvers.

What makes it one of the Best .45 ACP Revolvers?

Thanks to its double-action nature, this revolver stands out.

Without needing to draw back the hammer beforehand, the double-action pistol would let you pull the trigger and get off a shot.

In a self-defense scenario or where you need to rapidly fire off a few shots in rapid succession, this can be invaluable.

We feel that those willing to put in the work to make the best of its advantages will master even its significant recoil.

For whom is this .45 ACP Revolver best suited?

Experienced fans of revolvers can find a lot in this revolver to like.

Yet newcomers will still appreciate the ease-of-use of this revolver, since the double-action nature suggests that they don’t have to remember to pull the hammer back.

The relaxed grip makes it impossible to drop the pistol, too.

Verdict: Best Double Action .45 ACP Revolver

For newcomers and seasoned shooters alike, this powerful revolver is a perfect pick.

If you don’t like having to pull the hammer back for each shot, it’s a great weapon.

Why should I get a new Revolver in .45 ACP?

We’re going to find out:

Customization

Buying a new .45 ACP pistol would encourage you to choose just what it is supposed to do.

For self-defense, certain revolvers are ideal, whereas others are better for target shooting.

You may select a .45 ACP revolver that is specially made that straddles the distinction between the two for any of those purposes. All is up to you.

Great Materials

New revolvers have improved components, rendering them more powerful and user-friendly for their grip and barrels.

Advances in chemistry and metallurgy offer advantag for of these modern .45 ACP revolvers, whereas older revolvers are a little more bulky and might not be as reliable, particularly in terms of range.

Longer Life

Best 45 ACP Revolver

New finishes to the .45 ACP pistol metallic frames indicate that modern revolvers can last longer than their relatively ancient cousins.

It can be anticipated that modern revolvers can last for decades, as long as you treat them well, so it’s a perfect opportunity to buy a modern revolver that your family has passed down for several years to come.

Final Verdict

Overall, one that suits the needs is the best .45 ACP revolver.

But we are sure that, since each is suitable for a specific type of gunman, one of the above revolvers could fit the bill.

Good luck and thank you very much for reading!

What people also ask?

Let’s answer those now if you have some unanswered concerns about .45 ACP revolvers and their use.

In .45 ACP, what does ACP stand for?

As the ammunition was initially designed for use in a prototype Colt semi-automatic firearm, ACP stands for ‘Automatic Colt Pistol’.

The ammo is still used worldwide in all kinds of side arms and revolvers, but the initial name and abbreviation stuck to differentiate the ground from identical bullets.

How do you load bullets in a .45 ACP Revolver?

Compared to several other revolver rounds, because revolvers use rimless ammunition, and .45 ammunition are a little larger, it’s a smart idea to use a full moon clip that carries six rounds and preloads the cartridges into that clip before inserting them into your revolver.

For quick reloading in a pinch, you can have some of these clips prepared beforehand.

Top 5 new pistols & revolvers from the SHOT Show 2020

SHOT Show 2020 – Industry Day at the Range. We were on site for you and tell you about the 5 small arms that particularly impressed us.

Because they are brand new, and because they are somehow special. So to speak an “Editors Choice”.

Here I present my personal Top 5.

Exceptional new releases in the pistol segment such as the GLOCK 44 and the Walther Q4 SF are not included here – we had already released both models and even tested them in practice.

So what were the real novelties in the Nevada desert on the day before the opening of SHOT Show 2020 in the field of handguns (pistols and revolvers)?

Springfield Armory XD-M Elite – 4 new pistol models based on the Croatian HS product “master model” HS 2000

Springfield Armory XD-M Elite - 4

What in the USA is the Springfield XD (Extreme Duty) polymer gun series, originates from the Croatian company HS Produkt and once started in Europe with the original model HS 2000.

In North America, Springfield Armory has continued to expand this family with much marketing and great success.

The highlight of the development is now the Springfield Armory XD-M Elite series consisting of four 9×19 pistol models in different sizes and with barrel lengths of 3.8″, 4.5″ (Elite Tactical also with 4.5″ barrel with muzzle thread for silencer mounting) and 5.25″ barrel.

We especially liked the top model of the series, which has been tested in the desert today – the XD-M Elite Precision with 5.25″ barrel.

The features of all Elite pistols, which have a very sleek design, are the META (Match Enhanced Trigger Assembly) trigger unit, the hammered match barrel, exchangeable magazine funnels in short and standard version, breech catch lever on both sides, loading status display, improved gripping grooves as well as an increased magazine capacity of up to 22+1 cartridges (even though according to the new German WaffG pistol magazines they are only allowed to hold 20 cartridges).

COLT Python Revolver in .357 Magnum – classic reissued for 2020

The joyous rebirth of a true classic in the gun world can be celebrated with the “new” COLT Python revolver in .357 Magnum.

We remember: The Colt Python with large “I” frame, double action trigger and drum capacity for 6 cartridges as well as heavy barrel unit with ejector housing reaching to the muzzle and ventilated sight rail first saw the light of day in 1955 and was manufactured until 2005.

Now, after 15 years of market abstinence, the legend is returning and is offered for the time being in a new edition in stainless steel in barrel lengths of 4.25″ and 6″.

RUGER-57 pistol – technically super interesting

RUGER-57 pistol

At least in Germany the new RUGER -57 pistol is not allowed for sport shooters due to its sub-caliber 5.7×28 as well as for example the old Russian PSM pocket pistol in 5.45×18.

Nevertheless, we consider them to be technically interesting, so that we present the RUGER-57, which was now presented at the SHOR Show.

Calibers like the 5.7×28 or 4.6×30 were primarily developed for governmental used, extremely compact, fully automatic “Personal Defense Weapon” (PDW) weapon systems like the FN P90 or Heckler & Koch MP7.

We have had the pleasure of shooting these weapons as well as the FN pistol FiveseveN in the past.

They are characterized by a barely perceptible recoil and thus highest shot control, rapid, elongated bullet trajectory and (depending on the bullet type) special target-ballistic behavior.

The brand new Ruger-57 is a plastic frame pistol with trigger with safety element, firing pin lock and design features of the well-known Ruger American Pistol.

The barrel length is almost 5″, the magazine holds 20 cartridges.

A double sided safety, a MIL-STD-1913 mounting rail on the Dust Cover and an adjustable sight with fiberglass front sight successfully round off the Ruger-57.

The small bottleneck cartridge is fast out of the pistol, so initial velocities of 638 m/s with a 27 Grains JHP bullet or 522 m/s with a 40 Grains Hornady V-Max are envisaged.

FN 509 Compact MRD – new pistol from FN with 3.7 inch barrel and optics preparation

FN 509 Compact MRD

In keeping with the current zeitgeist, the easy-to-handle FN 509 Compact MRD polymer pistol in 9 mm Luger with a magazine capacity of 12+1 cartridges comes prepared ex works for mounting a miniature illuminated dot sight.

The corresponding window cut-out in the rear part of the breech is designed in such a way that most Mini Red Dot Sights (MRDS) available on the market can be mounted.

The mechanical sight, entirely in black, is designed to form a visual line with the MRDS reticle (“Co-Witness”).

This means that even if the electro-optical sight should fail, the user can continue to work without hindrance.

A mounting rail on the Dust Cover for attaching compact weapon lights, controls on both sides and a wide trigger blade with integrated safety as well as two additional interchangeable grip backs are further features of the FN 509 Compact MRD.

The pistol with 3.7″ barrel length is primarily designed for self-protection and concealed carrying.

According to current fashion, it would probably be carried in an AIWB holster.

Kimber 1911 Rapide (Black Ice) – affordable all-steel pistols on 1911 basis

Kimber 1911 Rapide

John M. Browning would probably rotate in his grave if he could see what current novelties based on his millennium construction COLT Government of 1911-A1 look like today.

A fine example of an affordable single action all-steel pistol with successful features is the Kimber 1911 Rapide in 9 mm Luger, .45 Auto and 10 mm Auto in the classic format of the former US Army service pistol with 5″/127 mm barrel.

The slim grip for single-row magazines with capacity for 8 or 9 cartridges is equipped with very grippy G-10 grips, whose surface design corresponds to the grip grooves on the breech.

The slide, in turn, has three window cut-outs on both sides, which reduces weight and increases the breech speed in the repeating process.

Control in the shot is further enhanced by the “Kimber Stiplex TM” surface structure on the front of the frame.

The skeletonized “V-Cut” aluminum trigger is set at the factory for a trigger weight of around 1,800 to 2,200 g with clean characteristics.

There is of course room for improvement (bending or replacing springs, polishing, retrofit parts). Nevertheless, it is still possible to work with the trigger, whereby the mechanical, nocturnal Tru-Glo TFX Pro sight with a large dot in the front sight is designed for fast shooting.

In addition to the light stainless steel version with black hardcoated barrel, there is also a version with black surface finish and gold hardcoated barrel.
