5 Best Ruger AR-556 Handguards

The Ruger AR-556 is an AR-15 entry-level, durable and inexpensive.

Reliability is what you’d hope from Ruger, making it a huge success for the company.

The factory handguard, however, is ordinary, and has no functionality.

If your AR-556 needs a modern, full-featured handguard, read on.

Drop-In vs. Free Float Handguards

Drop-in handguards are lighter and simpler to mount than free-floating models.

Such styles are fixed on both the rear D-ring assembly and the front handguard shield, putting them into touch with the gun. They seem to be a bit fun.

Free-floated handguards hold the barrel nut firmly, but do not touch the muzzle at all, thereby adding to the precision of the weapon.

Their strong, wiggle-free connection allows them the perfect option for high-eye relief or optical sights.

There is no question that drop-in handguards are a safer choice for installing forward grips and bipods, since they can spin a little and reduce torque.

If you’re trying to cut off the weight of your AR-15 every single ounce, a drop-in will appear to be the way to go.

The bottom line is to go for a free float option if you want anything that’s as robust and reliable as possible, looks beautiful, and is ideal for mounting optics.

If you need something that’s inexpensive and cuts to excess weight, the way to go is to drop in.

Know, you get what you’re asking for in this market just as in many others.

Only a better-made product arrives at a higher price.

How to pick an AR-556 Ruger handguard

Best Ruger AR-556 Handguards

You also have a range of choices to pick from after you’ve chosen whether you want a free float handguard or a drop-in one.

Installation Solutions

First, the mounting choices are come in different sorts.

Most of those products come along the top with a rail. For full mobility, the Quad-rail handguards have rails on all four sides.

Nearly every rail these days is of the Picatinny or uniform styles. Which include non-rail mounting systems like KeyMod or M-LOK.

Materials

Polymer can be stronger than aluminum but less robust.

Aesthetics may be essential but the beholder’s focus is on aesthetics.

While most people prefer the streamlined futuristic design of free float handguards, in different drop-in designs some find a certain mystique.

Price & Budget

Then there’s the price, of course. Spend as much as you can afford to have the highest quality possible.

Best Ruger AR-556 Handguards Review

The Ruger AR-556 has hundreds of handguards available and choosing the proper one may be frustrating for you.

We did the hard work distinguishing the wheat from the chaff, so read on for the perfect Ruger handguards AR-556:

Best Ruger AR-556 Handguard: WILSON COMBAT T.R.I.M. – TACTICAL RAIL INTERFACE

Pros

  • Produced in the USA
  • High quality aluminum build
  • Very durable and lightweight

Cons

  • None

Best Ruger AR-556 Handguard

This is an extremely versatile and elegant free float-guard from Wilson Combat, one of the AR world’s greatest.

In the 1960s Yankee Hill began developing its rock-solid image with a military deal to clean rods for M16.

This product pushes both versatility and beauty to the max.

The four full length rails offer you the ultimate versatility in tactical accessories mounting.

It features diamond-shaped vents between the poles, which not only look rugged but also facilitate superior heat dissipation.

Even this feature tends to reduce heat to a minimum.

Both the anodization of aluminum and hard coat are high-grade materials which meet military standards.

These guards come in three sizes, seven, nine, and twelve inches, and sit over low-profile blocks of gas.

They ship with all the required mounting hardware including a barrel nut, jam nut, and anti-rotation screws.

Separately offer available Yankee Hill end caps. The expanded top rail offers a transfer from the receiver rail to a fluid.

The holes on all four rails are numbered alphanumerically to support remount accessories at the same positions.

Verdict: Best Ruger AR-556 Handguard

This is a top-notch rail that carries versatility and looks to the top.

The venting architecture and the smooth transfer from receiver rail to hand guard rail are the key characteristics.

2nd Best Ruger AR-556 Handguard: GEISSELE 15″ SUPER MODULAR RAIL MK8 M-LOK

Pros

  • Very light and robust
  • Customizable rails included
  • Compatible with almost any rifle

Cons

  • None really

2nd Best Ruger AR-556 Handguard

Say what you like about Troy Industries, they’re producing an outstanding product.

This item comes with 2 two-inch lengths and one adjustable rail length of 4.2 inches, in addition to the full-length top rail.

To ensure accuracy of mounting accessories the top rail is numbered alphanumerically.

It comes with all the hardware you need to install those rigid rails wherever you want.

The vents form large circles which provide great ventilation and weight reduction, while the rail’s textured body gives an excellent grip.

This free float handguard installs (not included) on a regular barrel-nut. It is locked into place by two hex-head bolts and an integrated stop prevents over tightening.

This product is made from high-grade, mil-spec anodization of aluminum and hard coat that you can expect from any standard AR item.

The bolts at the hex head are stainless steel. The handguard is manufactured in different styles, but the 13-inch model sticks out but could involve a low-profile block of gas.

Verdict: 2nd Best Ruger AR-556 Handguard

This handrail provides decent value for the money. Excellent stuff, structure, and overall quality.

The top characteristics are the Picatinny rigid rails and the ability to install them easily on a regular barrel nut.

This is just another excellent commodity that adds to the good prestige of Troy.

3rd Best Ruger AR-556 Handguard: A.R.M.S.,INC – AR-15/M16 #59 RIFLE LENGTH S.I.R. SYSTEM

Pros

  • Very simple to assemble & install
  • Lifetime Warranty
  • Great grip stability du to finish

Cons

  • May not be compatible with some gas blocks

3rd Best Ruger AR-556 Handguard

For someone who wants a stern, understated look this is a perfect handguard.

Rather than resembling some form of aluminum negligee to your AR, this product is a strong tube that resembles an industrial machine part.

That is not to suggest that having an accurate, lightweight, and inexpensive AR handguard isn’t highly engineered.

For stable, quick, and simple attachment it comes with its own barrel nut.

Knurled down the central length to give you a firm handle.

To-the weight, five elegant flutes were machined out. Ten rounded slots were cut for the same purpose, near the muzzle.

The materials and finishes are regular aluminum 6061 T6 with anodized black hard coat.

It is manufactured in the U.S.A. and has lifetime warranty.

The regular length is 12.5 inches, although it also comes in 4 and 7, with the former unfluted and the latter getting eight flutes and no slots.

The width outside is 1.98 inches and the weight is 13 ounces.

Verdict: 3rd Best Ruger AR-556 Handguard

This handguard is a perfect money-value. The machining and the production is without fault.

The fact that, like many others, it is not skeletonised significantly enhances its efficiency.

We don’t always need it wrapped in endless rail and many would find the snag-free advantages enticing.

This handguard’s main attribute is simplicity of use, but the durability is fantastic too.

4th Best Ruger AR-556 Handguard: KNIGHTS ARMAMENT – AR-15 RAS HANDGUARD FREE FLOAT

Pros

  • 7 M-Lok options
  • Fast & easy installation
  • Great grip stability

Cons

  • Not stable enough for optics

4th Best Ruger AR-556 Handguard

This is the only handguard drop-in on our list, and not without reason.

It’s a very well made piece of equipment. Drop-in handguards aren’t unaffordable and this one offers them in spades.

The installation procedure is incredibly simple if you have a lock, delta loop, and handguard cap with a mil-spec barrel.

It is connected to the rear delta ring with included screws and to a front-facing handguard cover.

Another big advantage is that it stretches on an M4-style carbine beyond the front scope, providing additional surface space for grip and mounting accessories.

The overall length is 13.5 inches. The handguard, and the top Picatinny rail in particular, stretches out over the delta ring to be level with the receiver and the receiver line.

The seven non-top surfaces are filled with rows of M-LOK slots for lightweight, sturdy mounting.

This comprises two types of M-LOK to Picatinny adapters, one with five Picatinny slots and one with nine.

Naturally this component is made of high-grade anodization of aluminum and mil-spec hard coat.

Verdict: 4th Best Ruger AR-556 Handguard

This product delivers great value for the money.

You get a decent, lightweight mount that stretches almost all the way to the muzzle from flush with the receiver.

For whatever cause this drop-in is a runaway hit.

5th Best Ruger AR-556 Handguard: KNIGHTS ARMAMENT – AR-15 URX 4 M-LOK HANDGUARDS

Pros

  • Lifetime warranty & Produced in the USA
  • Seven M-LOK rails
  • Very durable and made from high quality materials

Cons

  • None really

5th Best Ruger AR-556 Handguard

This item promotes lightness in the package without losing on performance.

The Magpul M-LOK device enables you to install tactical devices without piling on extra rail weight.

In reality, the seven rows of M-LOK slots not only add no weight but also reduce it.

As M-LOK, one of the most trusted designers of AR components, was developed by Magpul, there are no problems with this model.

Even the slender appearance leads to weight loss.

Given its lightweight design, mil-spec components and a development method according to numerous international quality management requirements, such as ISO:9001 and AS:9100, confirm the consistency of the handguard.

Machined from titanium, the patented barrel nut Foxtrot Mike.

The handguard 6061 T6 in aluminum adds eight stainless steel bolts to it. Often contains shims.

It comes in lengths of 8.5, 10.5, and 15-inch, too.

Verdict: 5th Best Ruger AR-556 Handguard

If you need a lightweight , durable handguard, you ‘d be hard pressed to do better than this.

M-LOK is the ideal mounting option, since it decreases weight and is easily shock-resistant.

The addition of shims is a major bonus, which makes mounting even more easy than it usually is.

In addition, the overall efficiency, structure and materials are excellent.

Perks in getting a top of the line Handguard

There are almost too many advantages to getting the best handguard available.

First is pure performance, because you prefer to get what you’re paying for.

For eg, this concept is embodied in heat-resistance.

Aluminum requires good airflow to keep cool and polymer needs good structure to prevent heat disruption.

Quality can also lead to the ease of implementation, by way of good design.

A top-of-line handguard would have well-considered mounting choices, be it track, KeyMod or MLOK.

This lets you install much more than just a sight or lens. Numerous adapters can come fitted with numerous mounting choices.

You will realize which handrail is right for you after you have selected which laser, angled grip, flashlight, etc. you want on your handguard, and in which place you want to mount them in.

Best Ruger AR-556 Handguards

Even the best handguards are as lightweight as practicable without losing reliability and durability.

Nobody wants to grow bored of lugging around a big firearm every day.

Final Verdict

If you’re going for a drop-in or a free float, we’re confident you’ll find the right Ruger AR-556 handguard on our page for you.

DAMAGE INDUSTRIES: Front handles for Picatinny Rails “Grenade” + “Knob

The US company DAMAGE INDUSTRIES has been supplying US authorities with weapon parts for years.

Now they have developed the two front grips “Grenade-Style” and “Knob-Style”, which are currently sold in the USA at a very reasonable price of only $29,99.

We assume that both grips will be available in Germany/Europe soon.

Both handles from DAMAGE INDUSTRIES are made of 6061 aluminum and will be hardened afterwards.

The two models differ only in the surface structure.

The model “Knob Style” comes with circumferential grooves and the model “Grenade Style” with additional fluting.

For a low total weight, the handle body has been hollowed out on the inside.

The hollow space also serves as a storage place for small parts. To access the cavity, the handle must be removed.

The clamping jaw is completely recessed in the handle and thus offers a flat exterior.

The clamping jaw is fixed by a special screw. This screw can be operated both with a cross-head screwdriver and with a coin.

The handles are completely made in the USA. They are light and inexpensive.

Therefore these grips are also interesting for Europe. all4shooters.com keeps you up to date.

Daniel Defense EZ CAR Rail 9.0

The Quad-Rail hand protection from Daniel Defense is (also) available in short and medium lengths.

In the USA, Daniel Defense is one of the major suppliers of AR-15 based self loading rifles and accessories.

The accessory family EZ CAR™ has been extended by the EZ CAR Rail™ 9.0.

This is a hand guard for AR-15 with a medium length gas system that should appeal to military, law enforcement and civilian users.

The hand guard EZ CAR has the reputation of being rock solid and easy to mount on the rifle without modifications.

It consists of two parts and can be attached to the standard delta ring of medium length systems. Nothing has to be changed on the rifle.

Like the EZ CAR™ Rail 7.0, it is sized to fit most AR-15 attachments.

The hand guard is unique in that it is compatible with both round and trapezoidal versions of the original hand guard.

The EZ CAR™ 9.0 is milled from 6061-T6 aluminum and the surfaces are Mil-Spec Type III hard anodized.

The EZ CAR™ 9.0 is 39.2 cm long, has an outer diameter of 6.1 cm and an inner diameter of 3.5 cm.

It weighs 352 g. At Daniel Defense they say “Ounces quickly become pounds” and therefore keep the weight as low as possible.

Daniel Defense assumes that with this hand guard you can make the weapon more versatile than with a normal plastic guard.

“In this case we have not completely redesigned anything.

This is an existing product that has been adapted to medium lengths.

It just makes sense,” says Jordan Hunter, Director of Marketing at Daniel Defense.

The EZ CAR™ 9.0 is a good alternative among the many tactical AR-15 handguards, many of which do not deliver what they promise.

TILT ON NAIL

A new, slim tilt-up assembly according to the Picatinny standard from RECKNAGEL, which is in no way inferior to a classic swivel assembly.

The one-piece, very low-profile tip-up mount made of high-strength, black anodized aluminum is ideally suited for hunting bolt action rifles with Picatinny rails according to

Best Ruger AR-556 Handguards

In comparison to the ERA TAC Picatinny mounts from RECKNAGEL, the mentioned tilt-up mount is much slimmer and with a minimum height of 10.5 mm one of the lowest mounts of this type.

The mounting on the Picatinny rail is fixed either with triangular nuts or polyform levers.

The cross screws engage in the grooves of the picatinny rail and thus also serve as a stop.

Special attention has been paid to the ergonomic design and rounded edges, so that the mount adapts perfectly to the scope and picatinny rail and generates a harmonious overall picture of the weapon, optics and mount.

The mount is available with aluminum form rings in 26mm, 30mm and 34mm or with a mount for common rails.

NOBLEX N6 comfort TAC IPSC package for Picatinny Scope

NOBLEX N6 comfort TAC IPSC package

The NOBLEX N6 comfort TAC IPSC 1-6×24 package consists of a driven hunt riflescope with mounted reflex sight and the matching connection between red dot and riflescope.

The combination is predestined for dynamic shooting à la IPSC. all4shooters.com has tested the interesting combination. Also the price is hot:

This is the NOBLEX N6 comfort TAC IPSC 1-6×24

The new riflescope model N6 comfort TAC IPSC 1-6×24 from NOBLEX is actually a classic driven hunt IF. However, it has a few innovations to optimize the optics for action sports.

The basic body is based on a 30 mm tube, which houses the 24 mm lens.

The lens is available in black and Flat Dark Earth (FDE). NOBLEX equips both the height and the side adjustment tower with a quick adjustment.

The Zero-Stop is adjusted by loosening three Torx screws.

Once the riflescope has been shot at the desired distance, turn the scale ring to 0 and tighten the 3 screws again.

Now the reticle can only be turned back to the insertion distance, the lateral adjustment as well.

The magnification ring at the base of the eyepiece could be turned easily.

A small nose facilitates one-handed adjustment in the stop, for example for rapidly changing target distances within a course.

The reticle of the IPSC riflescope is an illuminated point in the 2nd image plane.

This means that the dot remains the same size at any magnification.

The illuminated intensity is regulated by an automatic brightness control.

Thus the luminosity adapts to the ambient light. This is controlled by a brightness sensor on the adjustment ring of the illumination.

If the dot appears too faint to the user, the brightness can be adjusted via this ring.

There is no switch for switching on or off. The light dot switches on automatically in normal operating position.

If the scope is swivelled more than 45 degrees to the side or more than 75 degrees up or down, it switches off automatically.

In plain language: If the weapon is standing in the cabinet or slumbering in the gun case, the reticle illumination remains switched off.

However, this can also happen when shooting in unconventional positions, as is not uncommon with the IPSC.

NOBLEX N6 comfort TAC IPSC package

NOBLEXsight II – completes the package with the ZF

There are some differences between the NOBLEXsight II plus in the IPSC version and the classic model II plus, such as parallax compensation at a distance of 25 m.

This is different with the conventional model II plus, where the distance is 40 m.

The reflex sight is available with 2 different luminous point sizes: in 3.5 minutes of angle (Minute of Angle: MOA) and in a version with 7-MOA point.

The small 3.5 MOA dot conceals 10 cm on targets 100 m away.

The user can therefore choose a fine or coarse point, just as it appears best to his own eye.

The NOBLEXsight is switched on by removing the protective cap.

The brightness is regulated automatically via a sensor based on the ambient lighting.

By putting on the protective cap, the illuminated dot switches itself off again automatically.

The height and side adjustment of the dot is done by means of a screwdriver with scale ring included in the scope of delivery.

After loosening two clamping screws, either the upper screw is used for height adjustment or the right-hand screw for lateral adjustment (do not forget to retighten it afterwards).

With the NOBLEX N6 comfort TAC IPSC package on the shooting range – what do you get for $1,795?

In order to test the dynamic performance of the optical combination properly, we went to the shooting cinema.

Here all types of impact can be tested under adjustable lighting conditions, regardless of the weather.

The indoor shooting range (RSA) of Schießstand Garlstorf GmbH in the Nordheide in Lower Saxony provided all these prerequisites.

At distances of 5 to 25 m, courses can be set up there to suit every taste.

NOBLEX N6 comfort TAC IPSC package

The optics combination was mounted on a HK 243 from Heckler & Koch, the civilian model of the G36.

The NOBLEX N6 comfort TAC IPSC in FDE was perfectly matched in color to the self-loading gun in RAL 8000.

The riflescope was mounted using Eratac’s block mount, here in its ultra-light version.

The offset mounting of the NOBLEXsight II plus IPSC was done with the mounts from Ritter.

These are included in the NOBLEX IPSC combination, consisting of a universal mount and a mounting plate for the reflex sight.

The universal mount consists of a 30 mm ring for the center tube of the riflescope with attached picatinnyrail.

There the mounting plate for the Mini Red Dot Sight (MRDS) from NOBLEX docks.

The ring allows the MRDS to be mounted at any angle to the left, right or on top of the riflescope.

The testers chose a mounting on the right side at an angle of 45 degrees.

All stops were tested while lying, standing, sitting and kneeling as well as from forced positions with unusual posture.

Shooting over the riflescope succeeded very well at first go, even with simple magnification.

Unfortunately, its illuminated reticle in dot form appeared somewhat dark in unfavorable lighting conditions, at least for the testers.

In addition, the illuminated dot switched off in constrained positions such as shooting from the lowest firing position near the ground, since the rifle has to be put on its side for this.

At least the switched off red dot remains black, so you can always continue to shoot with the rifle scope if the light is sufficient.

As expected, the NOBLEXsight II plus IPSC also performed well in all situations.

Only the mounting at 45 degrees right above turned out to be extremely unfortunate.

With every change from riflescope to reflex sight the cheek had to be lifted off the stock and the light spot had to be searched for.

Here a mounting by means of 45 degree offset directly on the housing rail, where also the riflescope is mounted, would be the better choice.

In this case you only have to turn the weapon in the shoulder without changing the posture of head and body significantly.

NOBLEX N6 comfort TAC IPSC package

Our conclusion on the IPSC optics set from NOBLEX

The riflescope NOBLEX N6 comfort TAC IPSC 1-6×24 as a package with NOBLEXsight II plus IPSC is a successful combination for dynamic disciplines like IPSC shooting.

With a few small adjustments of the mounting especially to the needs of the shooter and his weapon, the company brings a practical total package to the market, considering the rather low price of only 1,795 Dollar.

The 30-year manufacturer’s warranty rounds off the package – so a lot of fun for reasonable money is guaranteed.
