You’re undoubtedly one of the many owners of the Mossberg 500 who want to transform their shotgun to a tactical-style beast.
If you use your shotgun for home protection purposes, this could be a perfect upgrade for you.
Before dealing with someone with a tough looking shotgun, home invaders and prowlers will think twice.
These kits, though, aren’t all for appearances.
They are also used to boost the functionality of your shotgun as though it were in a tactical environment.
We’re going to tell you what’s inside these kits and how to pick the one that’s perfect for you before we reveal our selection of five tactical conversion kits that we choose as the best on the market.
What’s in a Kit for Tactical Conversion?
All sorts of products may come with your tactical conversion kit.
However, certain pieces may have been provided with one company, and otherwise may not be included in some kits from another manufacturer.
But certain pieces and components that are standard and can be included in all tactical conversion sets, you would be able to find. This is what you are going to find:
A shotgun barrel is one of the things that you’ll be surprised to see.
These barrels would be around 18 inches in size.
For those who choose to use their shotguns for home protection or offensive reasons, this barrel length is optimal.
Plus, the bullets would be able to move quicker and exit even quicker from the shotgun than if there were a 20-inch barrel mounted on it.
A buttstock is common for tactical conversion kits, of course.
Particularly a stock designed to withstand some recoil-related shock.
You want a stock at the same time, which is often built to reduce as much recoil as possible.
A stock manufactured from high-quality materials which are built to stand up to some use of a tactical conversion kit can be anticipated.
To accommodate any additional shotgun bullets, a side saddle is installed.
Usually, these have the capability to carry up to four shells.
There are several side saddles, though, which could have an ability of six shots or more.
Any way, you’re going to want a reliable side saddle that helps you to reload quicker each time you need extra rounds.
For easier access and because of its near proximity to the ejection port or magazine port for faster reloading, side saddles mount to the side of your receiver.
In a home protection case, a flashlight would certainly come in handy.
Especially when, during the night, home invasions start to happen and everybody in your house sleeps.
Before utilizing your Mossberg 500, you’ll need to be able to maneuver across your home and even be able to get a decent look at your attackers.
There might even be a strobe feature in certain flashlights that will momentarily disorient the attacker.
In the case that your shotgun may no longer operate or while reloading, these can come in handy.
This is extremely effective if you’re working with one intruder.
How to Pick a Kit for Tactical Conversion
When you’re hunting for a decent tactical conversion package, there are certain things that you need to concentrate on.
If you’re on a budget or have some cash to play with, finding a package that will help you to turn your Mossberg 500 shotgun into a tactical force to be reckoned with is always vital.
Here’s what you’ll need to keep an eye out for while you look for your own kit:
The accessories that are mentioned in the above list are some of the things you ought to watch out for.
A tube, along with a side saddle, a buttstock, and a torch would likely be included in the mix.
If you think that without either of these pieces, you’re better off, that’s totally up to you.
But in most tactical conversion packages, these can usually be included.
Some extra items can also be provided. This would focus on the name of the brand making these packages.
It is important to understand what kind of material is used to build the pieces.
Durability is the principal reason for this.
You want to have pieces that are super strong in your tactical conversion package which can last you a long time.
The last thing you want to do is use your weapon and wind up trying to repair bits and components that break continuously.
That means spending more money, of course. You should do your wallet a favor and save the financial headaches for yourself.
Polymer is a material to look out for. Polymer is made to be robust and strong.
The same goes for steel or aluminum (if the package contains barrels).
You want something which is easy to clean and can handle a pounding.
You’ll want to find one where installation is a breeze if you’re contemplating the idea of having a tactical conversion package.
This ensures that to mount it, you don’t require any gunsmithing expertise at all.
Nor would you need to enlist a professional’s help in order to mount the whole package.
Some of these packages contain buttstocks and other items that need fewer tool use and may take minutes to assemble.
