5 Best AR-10 Stocks

A rifle stock holds all of a rifle’s essential components and offers a firm holding platform for the gunman.

Manufacturers have come up with a number of new designs by evolving technologies and the influx of competition in the weapons industry.

The AR-10 is no exception to this customization susceptibility.

Here we will hear about the characteristics that a successful stock must have and the various kinds of stocks available for the AR-10.

In order to help you make a decision, the article also analyses the best AR-10 stocks.

Are all stocks for AR-10 the same?

The quick answer: no. In reality, here are a couple of explanations why they aren’t: one, stocks in terms of features are different.

Some of them may be changed and some do not. Some of them can at the same moment, have a much stronger recoil pad than most.

Often the capacity to minimize recoil can often vary from one stock to the next.

Despite appearing identical in style, to remind you that not all AR-10 stock is made equal, it is the little information that you need to look closely at.

When buying an AR-10 stock, what to look for

A strong .308 round is used in the AR-10 and is commonly used for hunting and precision shooting.

The strength and accuracy of the rifle must be complemented by a strong stock, maximizing its effectiveness.

Ergonomics Research

For the shooter with the gun, a stock provides three points of contact: shoulder, cheek, and trigger arm.

A stock must be machined and aligned for proper operation, thus ensuring precision.

In order for the shooter to feel relaxed when firing, the stock should have a strong slip-free surface and a good grip.

There must also be no excessive drop in the stock, so the shooter does not have to hold his head up.

Weight

Best AR-10 Stocks

Lightweight and quick to carry, a great AR-10 stock must be.

The AR-10 is a fine weapon for hunting and is sometimes brought for long stretches in the trees.

The stock of your AR-10 must be lightweight to protect you from tiredness and your arms from fatigue.

Pull Length

The pull length defines the gap between your shot and the grip.

In order to change the pull length, an AR-10 stock must have the relevant adjustable stock.

This allows for easy flipping between long-range shots and a close quarter.

Material

Originally, stocks were only made using wood. But there are various forms of stock constructions with time and design changes.

These involve wood, composite polymer, fiberglass, carbon fiber, and also metal, including synthetic stocks.

The best material for an AR-10 stock, such as fiberglass or other durable polymer stocks, should be durable and lightweight.

Room for Storage

Best AR-10 Stocks

This function does not sound quite important, but in certain cases, a limited storage room in your AR-10 stock may come in handy.

You will use them to store an additional pack of batteries, because when you lose your scope or flashlight batteries at home, you have a backup.

It seems like an adjustable stock is a reasonable choice here.

We’ll take a peek at the key features with every device, then dig into the pros and cons.

We want you to be completely conscious of what you have.

Types of Stocks for AR-10

Stocks for AR-10

There are several styles of stocks accessible for the AR-10, despite the success of the AR network.

We’re going to cover a couple, which include:

Fixed Stock

This is the most critical form of inventory for the AR-10.

A fixed stock consisting of wood, fiberglass, or some other robust composite polymer; a metal butt plate can also be featured.

Within them, fixed stocks also have a pocket that helps the customer to store things such as batteries, bandages, or some other small equipment.

Stocks that are Collapsible

As the name implies, it is possible to change a collapsible stock to modify the pull duration.

The stock features a butt plate attached to the receiver with a tube-like shape.

It is necessary to stretch or collapse this tube to change the stock volume.

In certain jurisdictions, collapsible stocks are unlawful, so before acquiring one you must review the local rules.

The Stock Adjustability

Stocks for AR-10

The adjustable stock, other than the fact that it can be modified in several other respects, is very close to the collapsible stock.

Components including a storage space, cheek riser, flexible butt plate, and to some degree) collapsible stock can be included.

Adjustable inventories are very advanced and are suitable for situational use.

Stock in a Minimalist way

A collapsible stock with a low profile could be a streamlined stock.

These stocks are little more than a butt pad, with a slim, rod-like shape linked to the receiver of the AR-10.

These stocks are highly lightweight and are suitable for tournaments including hunting and 3 gun shooting.

Stock Personal Defense Weapon (PDW)

A PDW stock is a kind of collapsible inventory that is very productive for moving between a short and long pull range.

These inventories are suitable for close contact warfare and self-defense, where the spring-loaded inventory can be easily increased to target stable long-range shots.

Folding Stock for AR

A folding stock may be flipped horizontally to cup the rifle from the edge, as the name suggests.

These stocks shorten the length of the weapon to about half of its original height, making it easy to pack and transport.

Be sure to verify the length, though, as it does not conform with local rules.

Bump Stock

Stocks for AR-10

A lot of controversy has lately been involving bump stocks since being used in mass shootings recently.

To offer it a rate of fire similar to an automatic weapon, a bump stock utilizes the recoil of the rifle.

Only one firm that has stopped development has patented and produced these stocks.

How to Install an AR-10 Rifle Stock

It’s pretty easy to mount a new rifle stock on your AR-10.

The technique is pretty much the same if your rifle has an A1 or A2 stock.

So let’s have a peek at the step-by-step method of updating and mounting a new stock of rifles on your AR-10.

We’ll detail the measures to eliminate a set buttstock and add a collapsible one for the sake of convenience.

Unloading the firearm, extracting the magazine and ensuring that the weapon is empty is the first and foremost move.

You must be 100 per cent confident that your weapon is free of all bullets before undertaking this stock changing procedure.

Note, for weapons, protection is the highest concern.

You have to separate the upper and lower receivers until you have assured protection.

Push out the front and rear locking pins that together protect the receiver and you are fine.

The next move is to unscrew the screw on the buttstock and slip out the OEM fixed stock.

Place the buffer pin farther down and take the buffer, buffer spring, and the buffer tube back.

Then, take the collapsible stock’s buffer tube (if supplied separately), and if supplied, thread on the spacer and end pad.

Now force the buffer detent in and screw it to the rear end of the receiver on the buffer tube.

Ensure that the detent pin and spring are still mounted on the receiver’s back.

Now slide all the way down the buffer tube on the collapsible stock, using the adjustment button for length, and you’re good to go.

Finally bring in the buffer spring and the buffer within the stock tube past the buffer detent.

Club the upper and lower receivers, and drive takedown pins in the front and back.

The procedure for adjusting stocks is now complete.

Lock your rifle and load it and you’re ready to shoot.

Final Verdict

Stocks for AR-10

The AR-10 is a robust weapon that is mostly used for shooting, tournaments, and military applications.

A good AR-10 stock must be lightweight, robust, and along with good ergonomics, provide an adjustable pull length.

Any storage room often falls in handy in the stocks.

On the market, there are several different kinds of AR-10 stocks available.

Each of them varies in characteristics and qualities.

Maybe your own decision depends on the planned usage, personal interest and manner of shooting.

HERA Arms 7SIX2 in .308 Winchester in test and video – what can the AR-10-based selfloader do?

HERA Arms from Triefenstein in Lower Franconia has recently been particularly innovative in many market segments. Nationally and internationally.

We were on the shooting range with the new self-loading rifle HERA 7SIX2 according to AR-10 design in caliber .308 Winchester and took a closer look at it.

The three brothers Thomas, Andreas and Benedikt Nöth put their foot down.

In addition to new weapons such as the VRB bolt action rifle in .223 Remington or the H7 Rifle System cylinder bolt action rifle in .308 Winchester based on the Remington 700, they have invested a lot of time, money and energy in a new corporate image, so it is definitely worth taking a look at the HERA Arms homepage.

In addition, they have also created their own competition, HERA Arms Nightmare Steel, which offers a lot of action.

But we want to take a look at the HERA Arms 7SIX2 in caliber .308 Winchester, which was first presented at the Enforce Tac/IWA 2019 and is now finally available.

It’s a great weapon, that much can be revealed in advance.

HERA Arms 7SIX2

This 7SIX2 from HERA Arms is already available as a ready-made set or as an alternative from the configurator

As usual, you can either choose one of the four new models 7SIX2 1020, 2020, 2010, 3040 in different barrel lengths and configurations or you can create your individual dream rifle on the homepage with the help of the configurator.

The most compact model 1020 has a 14.5″ barrel and is equipped with a fixed HRS Light shoulder rest.

This semi-automatic rifle weighs 3,650 grams and reaches a total length of only 89 centimeters.

Price: 2.529,- Dollar. The 2010 and 2020 models are equipped with 16.75″ barrels. The 2010 model with fixed HRS shoulder support weighs 3,985 grams with an overall length of 101 centimeters.

Price: 2.589,- Dollar. The 2020 model is equipped with the length-adjustable CCS shoulder support and weighs 3,848 grams with a variable overall length from 94.5 centimeters to 103.5 cm. Price: 2.599,- Dollar.

These rifles have plastic attachments from the in-house HERA arms production (about which mysqltuner has already reported with video).

The fourth and most expensive model 3040 on the other hand is equipped with the popular Magpul PRS shoulder rest with length-adjustable butt plate and height-adjustable cheek piece.

The match rifle has a 20″ barrel with bull-barrel instead of heavy-barrel barrel contour, like the other three models, and with a weight of 4,907 grams it has a total length of 108.5 centimeters.

Price: 2.899,- Dollar.

All rifles have a twist of 1-11″, are equipped with an effective three-chamber compensator and are delivered with a Magpul PMAG magazine with a capacity for 10 cartridges.

Our test weapon is the flagship in the form of the HERA Arms 7SIX2 Model 3040.

The HERA Arms 7SIX2 on AR-10 basis analyzed in detail

HERA Arms 7SIX2

The Southern German manufacturer is rightly proud of the fact that almost all AR construction components are produced in-house, so that it can act autonomously and is hardly dependent on suppliers.

For the production of the housing parts made of 7075-T6 aluminium, modern, five-axis DMG CNC milling centers are used to implement the modern design.

Here, too, it is the details that count. For example, the hole for the front fixing pin (“Pivot Pin”) on the system housing was not drilled symmetrically but off-centre.

This is not a manufacturing error! This prevents the upper system housing (“Upper Receiver”) from hitting the grip (“Lower Receiver”) with full weight and a lot of force when the rear cross pin (“Take Down Pin”) is removed and the weapon is opened.

This eliminates unsightly flaws on the lower and upper receiver in continuous use.

These main components are very well made inside and outside. In order to achieve minimum tolerances, there are two studs on the top of the hilt, with which the lower and upper parts can be perfectly matched.

This method of tolerance compensation is common practice in the AR world today, even if manufacturers take different approaches.

Some prefer the rear part of the Take Down Pin, others prefer the front part of the Pivot Pin.

In the end, only the results count. On the new 7SIX2 standard models, the operating elements such as the slide catch lever and magazine release are single-sided.

On both sides there is the slide catch with a voluminous lever on the right and a flatter lever on the left side of the grip.

The HERA Arms MPSS Gen.2 fuse can be mounted in 90/45 degree position. In the grip is a standard MIL-SPEC trigger unit.

The direct trigger had a measured trigger weight of 2,100 grams due to the built-in, lighter percussion hammer spring, which is a quite passable value for such a standard trigger.

The gas system with a straight, unbent gas tube also has distinctive characteristics.

With the original AR-10 system, the gas tube pinned into a simple MIL-SPEC gas sampling unit is often not tight.

This can be easily seen by looking at the dirt around the gas sampling unit with the hand guard removed.

This is where HERA Arms relies on sealing with thread flanks.

Obviously with success, because after extensive shooting only minimal contamination by escaping gas was found on the gas sampling unit.

As already mentioned, the 20″ long match barrel made of 42CrMo4 steel, which is produced by button pulling, is provided with a 1-11″ twist and additionally honed on the inside.

Many other manufacturers use a 1-10″ twist in the standard caliber .308 Win.

However, the 1-11″ twist has proven to be more flexible, especially with regard to lighter bullets from 136 to 150 grains, which can also be a significant advantage in the district, depending on the bullet construction.

In our later practical test we were able to achieve good results with bullets in the weight range of up to 178 grains.

With the 7SIX2 self loading rifle 3040 in .308 Winchester for precision testing on the shooting range

HERA Arms 7SIX2

We equipped our HERA Arms 7SIX2 3040 model with an ERA TAC mount with adjustable forward tilt, a Schmidt & Bender PM II 5-45×56 PM II High Power and a Fortmeier bipod.

The shooting performance test was carried out with eight types of ammunition at 100 meters.

The best result we achieved was 16 mm with the RWS 168 Grains Target Elite Plus factory ammunition, which was beyond any doubt the best.

For the first time, we also worked with the brand new RWS 168 Grains Scorion match bullet, with which we were able to achieve good results with our hand-held semi-automatic ammunition.

Thus we produced an 18 mm group with a hand load consisting of 42.0 Grains IMR 4166 propellant and RWS Scorion.

A scattering circle that was only one millimeter larger was achieved with the same laboratory work with only 2.0 grains more powder charge.

However, the Hornady 178 Grains Precision Hunter factory cartridge with the hunting ELD-X bullet was also convincing with 19 mm.

Test conclusion: The 7SIX2 from HERA Arms

With the new 7SIX2 family, HERA Arms has succeeded in launching a self-loading rifle with the unmistakable AR-10 pattern in the powerful .308 Winchester caliber.

Those who cannot find what they are looking for among the four standard models offered can still assemble their dream weapon according to individual preferences in the online configurator.

Of course, this is a little more expensive and may involve longer waiting times.

But the possibilities with regard to the equipment in detail are almost inexhaustible.

The price of 2.899,- Dollar for the match rifle with 20″ match barrel tested by us is in any case completely ok.
