10 Best Ruger 10/22 Stocks

The Ruger 10/22 is the most common rim fire rifle in America, without any doubt.

In its 50 years of development, over 5 million of Ruger’s “adult carbines” have been sold. Crafted as a rim fire rifle for adults, the Ruger 10/22 derives its looks and styling from the venerable US M1 Carbine used during World War II, as opposed to a standard old firearm.

For its innovative rotary magazine which ensured reliable feeding, the Ruger 10/22 became popular.

While it is a great weapon straight out of the plant, a tactical stock that looks sweet can make your 10/22 even better.

The best aftermarket stocks for your Ruger 10/22 rifle are what we’re going to speak about in this article.

The top 10/22 ruger stocks currently on the street can be seen below.

Both of them are put inside a comparison chart that is easy to interpret and makes it very easy to find the right stock for your needs.

When buying a 10/22 stock, what should I look for?

In the rest of the pack, there are several items that can make a 10/22 stock stand out.

As far as consistency and efficiency go, you’ll need to differentiate a decent stock from one that is not deemed the finest.

In a stock upgrade which will suit your weapon, here’s what you should look for:

Price

It’s not a function or characteristic, obviously. However, whether and while you are on a deficit, it’s something worth considering.

You can pick the best price that suits the best quality that you will expect in that range.

Don’t mistake this with preferring cheap and flimsy so you can afford it.

Appropriate for your Pull Length

If you are searching for a stock, find one that, as far as the pull length is concerned, would be perfect for you.

You want to be just about in your reach so that you can run your rifle rather than combat.

Alternatively, an adjustable stock will be identified and can be used for setting up different lengths.

Materials

Stocks are also crafted from either wood or plastic materials for 10/22 rifles.

Yet every single one of them has their own benefits and drawbacks.

A plastic stock manufactured from polymer or other materials may be what you need if you want anything that will be long-lasting and able to withstand more shock than others.

The Strongest Ruger 10/22 Aftermarket Stocks review

A list of Ruger 10/22 stocks which are currently on the shelf is as follows.

You should be able to select one that would be suitable for your desires and interests when looking at these.

You’ll still need to select one that your weapon will be most compatible with.

We looked at the different aftermarket stocks designed for the Ruger 10/22 rifle and came up with the top replacement stocks that emerged.

Such buttstocks are a perfect substitute to the factory stock that your rifle comes with.

Let ‘s start with the first stock on our list:

Best Ruger 10/22 Stock: Magpul Hunter X-22 Adj. Stock

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • Very easy to install
  • Extremely durable

Cons

  • None

Best Ruger 10/22 Stock – What recent users say?

Many of the new users were quite happy with this stock and its ability to conform to all types of lengths quickly.

They said it was sufficient for their preferred pull length and allowed them maximum control over their weapons.

Compared to his old fixed stock, one user said this was an outstanding improvement, which was a factory default that did not do him any favors.

What makes it one of the best Ruger 10/22 Stock?

Magpul is famous for its high-quality, aftermarket firearms accessories.

Magpul has come up with an impressive stock for the 10/22 in the same way.

The stock is made of a strengthened polymer, which is better than ordinary polymer on many levels.

The polymer architecture prevents any potential degradation-related issues.

Plus, it also reduces the rifle’s total weight.

If your hands are dry or wet, the optimized forend form and the pistol-type grip of the firearm ensure that you get a right grip on the gun.

This stock has an adjustable pull length that goes to the rear, so you can modify its length according to your location and physique.

Using spacers, the length is balanced and can quickly be omitted or added.

In comparison, the stock’s butt plate includes a non-slip recoil pad, meaning you can fire for hours without straining your shoulders comfortably.

The stock has a drop-in configuration and the need for takedown screws and the v-block keeping the rifle together has been eliminated, so the installation is effortless and simple.

The stock barrel tray is interchangeable and embraces all 10/22 (standard or bull) barrels.

Barrels of all lengths are approved by the stock, but longer barrels only reach the tip.

The stock has M-LOK mounts for the addition of forend attachments such as bipods, laser lights, and several sling mounting choices when compatible.

The stock is available in different colors and styles, so the esthetics are often covered by Magpul.

For whom is this 10/22 Ruger Stock best suited?

It would be a wonderful stock that will be utilized for different purposes.

This stock can withstand shock, provide you with outstanding support, and will make your rifle a force to be reckoned with, no matter whether you are hunting or target shooting.

This is a stock never to be overlooked.

Verdict: Best Ruger 10/22 Stock

The Adjustable Stock Magpul Hunter X-22 is a fairly good stock that will be tough as nails, withstand shock and recoil, and give you the sharpshooting you want from your rifle.

When it comes to improving its efficiency in more ways than one, you’d be surprised at what this stock can do for a rifle.

This stock for your 10/22 is an all-in-one option.

It is customizable, lightweight, and has different mounting points.

The included cheek riser increases its versatility as well.

Considering the value it provides, the stock is easy to mount and would suit your budget.

2nd Best Ruger 10/22 Stock: Tactical Solutions 10/22 Thumbhole Stock

Pros

  • Great design
  • Very ergonomic
  • Good value

Cons

  • None

2nd Best Ruger 10/22 Stock – What recent users say?

Once completed, using 100 rounds on different targets, they were able to try this out at the range.

There was a substantial amount of recoil that was minimized and for improved stance and firing, it enabled users to control their rifles.

One user said he was stunned that this surpassed his expectations like nothing else for a wood stock.

What makes it one of the best Ruger 10/22 Stock?

Although most wood stocks appear to fall short of synthetic stocks, when it comes to weather and shock handling, this one is pretty solid.

Opposite to a cheap, flimsy stock, it won’t break.

This is designed like a rock and will give you the best possible leverage as you close in on the kill shot or the bullseye, thus giving you non-slip control.

This lightweight ambidextre laminated wood goal stock, which features a factory pillar bedding device, is provided by Tactical Solutions.

When aiming the rifle with a scope attached, the factory cheek rest helps the gunman to achieve a flawless cheek weld and the wide forearm allows a bipod to be mounted and a generous surface area to support the firearm when shooting from the hand.

Through laser engraving, the pistol grip and forend are textured, making a flawless grip on the rifle every single time.

This is definitely the most costly product we’ve looked at, but it was also the best-looking stock and the only one built out of actual wood.

The only downside to this buttstock is that the cheek rest renders the profile of the stock a bit too large for use with factory iron sights, but the best option for the use of a rifle scope is hands down.

For whom is this 10/22 Ruger Stock best suited?

This would presumably be used mostly by hunters, but if a couple of users are target shooters (casual and competition), we won’t be surprised.

It’s the ideal stock that isn’t really adjustable, but it’s enough to function with a decent variety of people who fall into a certain category.

Verdict: 2nd Best Ruger 10/22 Stock

The Tactical Solutions Ruger 10/22 Thumbhole Stock is the only stock made of wood that silences all doubters every time you pull the trigger and delivers a robust performance.

This would be ideal for every 10/22 hunting weapon that will look like a beast by the time you finish this build.

With this stock, they were not disappointed and it allowed them to keep their rifles steady while taking any shooting opportunity possible.

One user said that it was simple to disassemble and put together to bring down this stock, thus alleviating his worry about complex installations.

What makes it one of the best Ruger 10/22 Stock?

A lightweight stock for upgrading your 10/22 rifle is the Hunter X-22 backpacker stock from Magpul.

While you move it from one location to another, the stock uses storage space.

The stock has been manufactured from robust advanced polymer, beginning with its construction, which imparts its strength and maintains it lightweight.

This is a collapsible stock built to ensure that when you are moving it from home to the field (or range) and back, your rifle does not take up too much room.

It’s a solid stock when put together, which will make for easy assembly.

There is no instance of looseness or rattling until coupled together that indicates ill-fitting.

Two distinct parts are the stock and the handguard, which can be kept separately while carrying the rifle.

Additionally, when being shipped, the locking interface connects the barrel assembly to the receiver.

The stock has pre-drilled holes for attaching swivel studs and slings to accept QD mounts.

There is an incorporated storage compartment in the grip of the stock to help you store a few batteries or a small first aid kit.

Not just this, but within its rear compartment, the stock still has sufficient storage space, which can accommodate three ten-round magazines at full size.

The stock’s pistol-style grip helps with the rifle’s overall precision and handling.

Plus, the stock’s color and style are excellent and contribute to your rifle ‘s overall aesthetics.

The stock has a 13.5-inch pull length and accepts all sorts of barrels, regardless of their capacity, built for the 10/22.

For whom is this 10/22 Ruger Stock best suited?

When you are finished with your rifle, if you are more worried with storage space, then this might be the stock that you can go with.

It would make portability even simpler once you strip this down.

Not to mention, the rifle is going to be kept out of reach and out of the way.

It acts like a stock when it’s attached, which will give you the strong protection you need to fire your rifle straight.

Verdict: Best Value Ruger 10/22 Stock

For the 10/22, Magpul’s X-22 stock is a small and lightweight stock that can be disassembled for fast transport.

On hunting trips, the stock has a lot of storage space that will come in handy.

The simplicity of the stock makes it simple to grip and just outstanding is the aesthetics.

It even suits all 10/22 barrels, which is obviously a bonus, since it can be switched at any point.

4th Best Ruger 10/22 Stock: Hogue Rubber Over Molded Stock

Pros

  • High quality material
  • Super durable
  • Great for every sized shooter

Cons

  • None really

4th Best Ruger 10/22 Stock – What recent users say?

For most inexperienced users who have never used a 10/22 rifle before, this stock was a great match.

They said they were granted outstanding control over their rifles by the stock and also found that there was not a whole lot of recoil and muzzle jump.

One person said that while hunting, he was able to get a great grip on his weapon and managed to remain steady while landing a good kill shot on a varmint.

What makes it one of the best Ruger 10/22 Stock?

In comparison to a typical Ruger 10/22, this stock by Hogue is more common for some who consider the Ruger 10/22 rifle as a truck or bug out gun that gets thrown around a ton or takes an extra amount of abuse.

The weapon is covered against what may otherwise result in unsightly dings, dents, blemishes, or bruises by the exterior rubber coating on the stock, which is the same feature that Hogue uses on its handgun handles.

This over-molded stock is slightly larger than certain standard stocks of Ruger 10/22.

And it makes it a lot smoother to handle your weapon. You will want to try using this to your benefit if you have problems with reversal, slippage, or others.

Often outstanding grip and control are all you need to make every shot count, whether you’re a total newbie or a seasoned vet.

Swing swivels are included in the Hogue stock and can handle the regular factory barrel.

With a stronger aim barrel, this specific buttstock won’t fit.

For whom is this 10/22 Ruger Stock best suited?

If you are searching for a stock that, in terms of content and consistency, might be thicker than others, than you would definitely want to offer this stock a shot.

For different uses, you can use the rifle and yet have the greatest control and recoil reduction possible all in one stock.

Install this and it will considerably boost its performance.

Verdict: 4th Best Ruger 10/22 Stock

The Hogue Rubber Over Molded Stock can withstand shock and provide improved grip and control for any user who, regardless of use, intends to fire a Ruger 10/22.

There is no question that, in so many respects, this stock can go the distance.

It’s robust, simple to mount, and the most comfortable stock you’ve ever used is sure to be.

5th Best Ruger 10/22 Stock: High Tower Armory Ruger 10/22 Bullpup Stock

Now we are shifting our focus to a stock with a rather fascinating style.

What helps it stand out even further is that it increases ergonomics so that you can hold your rifle properly and fire high quality shots without some form of pressure over longer periods.

This also requires all sorts of Ruger 10/22 magazines, including high-capacity aftermarket magazines, to also be accepted.

For whom is this 10/22 Ruger Stock best suited?

This is a stock that would mainly be helpful for target shooting purposes.

This stock might just be the right one that can be fixed on your rifle if you fire off rounds casually or as a competitor.

In terms of consistency, it’s fairly good and has the ability to last you a while.

Not terrible for when you frequently choose to spend some time on the range.

Verdict: 5th Best Ruger 10/22 Stock

The 10/22 Bullpup Stock of the High Tower Armory Ruger should be an outstanding stock that can handle all of your target shooting needs.

When you shoot off all sorts of shots, you will be very pleased with the sturdiness and durability you will require.

You will reach your goals with the precision and consistency you’ll like in your 10-22, no matter what the distance.

6th Best Ruger 10/22 Stock: West One Products Ruger 10/22 USGI Stock M1

Pros

  • Drop in installation
  • Traditional design
  • Great fit for most 10/22 rifles

Cons

  • Prone to scratches

6th Best Ruger 10/22 Stock – What recent users say?

For the classic wood look, most new buyers purchased this, but they said it was also super durable and was easy to mount on their rifles.

They said so far that their weapons looked aesthetically sharp and stabilized their overall grip when searching for targets of varmint and big game.

One person claimed it felt exactly the same as growing up with the hunting rifle his dad used.

Plus, in the meantime, it had no slip and reduced any recoil.

What makes it one of the best Ruger 10/22 Stock?

This is a stock made of beechwood from Europe. It’s a fairly solid piece of wood with a surprising amount of shock and recoil it can handle.

But the dark stain that gives it the iconic look that could turn a few heads while you are out on the range or catching up with a fellow hunter is what makes it a little more fascinating.

For whom is this 10/22 Ruger Stock best suited?

You’re definitely not going to settle for anything less than this stock if you are trying to make your Ruger 10/22 stand out as a classic, old-school-looking hunting rifle.

This stock can show its value and can surpass standards relative to other wood stocks, with its simplicity of installation and the ability to give you the support you need when keeping the rifle in the shooting position.

Verdict: 6th Best Ruger 10/22 Stock

For hunters who want a nice looking rifle (and also one that will give you superior stability as well), the West One Products Ruger 10-22 USGI Stock may be perfect. It is not like any other wood stock which, after 100 rounds, would crack under pressure.

But it’s going to give you the rough, long-lasting look most Ruger rifles would love to get.

7th Best Ruger 10/22 Stock: Hogue Nylon Overmolded 10/22 Stock

Pros

  • Tough Nylon Material
  • Enables comfortable shooting
  • Very durable

Cons

  • None

7th Best Ruger 10/22 Stock – What recent users say?

As expected, a number of new users have been enthusiastic about the ability of the stock to match on most 10/22 weapons.

They also said that it absorbed a lot more shock than anticipated and therefore allowed more reduction of the recoil.

Overall, in order to give them consistency while they kept it in the shooting spot, they had nothing but appreciation for the performance of this stock.

What makes it one of the best Ruger 10/22 Stock?

For beginners and even for those who are looking for improved grip and power, this over-molded style is suitable.

Often, particularly if you fire a heavy barrel Ruger 10/22, the rubber Ruger 10/22 over-molded Hogue stock is not for everybody.

Fortunately, Hogue often supplies their 10/22 buttstock in a standard nylon configuration.

The nylon variant contains a series of mounted Hogue sling swivel studs which, in addition to the wider diameter aftermarket aim cartridges, can accommodate the regular factory profile barrel.

This has a more conventional rifle buttstock profile without a thumbhole grip or pistol grip, like the Rubber Overmolded Ruger stock by Hogue.

For whom is this 10/22 Ruger Stock best suited?

This is a beginner-friendly stock that for every use will be fine.

It might be this stock that will carry your shooting experience to greater heights if you want fast handling and the greatest recoil and shock absorption possible.

Plus, it’s a reasonably durable stock that can withstand the test of time and constant use.

Verdict: 7th Best Ruger 10/22 Stock

The Hogue Nylon Overmolded 10/22 Stock is the ultimate beginner-friendly stock that will make it much simpler to use the 10/22 rifle.

Particularly when you have had a hard time handling it (like a factory default) with any other stock.

You’re going to be surprised by the noticeable drop in recoil.

But only by attaching this to your rifle, you would be blown away by how much control you can achieve.

8th Best Ruger 10/22 Stock: Magnum Research 10/22 Thumbhole Stock

Pros

  • Great thumhole stock
  • Good value stock
  • Very Durable

Cons

  • None

8th Best Ruger 10/22 Stock

Another value-priced stock that offers top of the line output is Glacier Ridge’s Magnum 10/22 MLSATCP thumbhole stock.

Billed as a thumbhole stock, it is more like the pistol grip stock previously described in that the gunman does not have to contend with a minuscule cut out for a thumb, but rather a full-sized pistol grip that is attached to the stock’s toe.

The barrel channel can handle the thickest and hardest of the target barrels of the Ruger 10/22 and allow them to float easily for optimum precision.

It has a lower cheek rest than any other stocks with this sort of thumbhole, although it may be seen as an advantage for not having a sniper scope for iron sighted shooters.

9th Best Ruger 10/22 Stock: ATI Strikeforce Adjustable Stock

Pros

  • Adjustable Buttstock
  • Modern design
  • High quality materials

Cons

  • None really

9th Best Ruger 10/22 Stock

It’s hard to top the ATI Fiber force stock for a pistol grip style stock on a Ruger 10/22.

Constructed of high-grade nylon, this stock echoes the iconic Soviet Dragunov SVD Sniper Rifle lines and ergonomics.

For ventilation, the hand guard and front are ventilated and giving the rifle a more martial look.

The stock of the ATI includes a fixed cheek rest and has mounted sling swivels to make the rifle more flexible.

Price wise, the price of this Ruger 10/22 ATI stock is difficult to top, since it retails for a little over $50.

10th Best Ruger 10/22 Stock: ATI Strikeforce Adjustable Stock

Pros

  • Lightweight & durable
  • Picatinny rails
  • Lifetime warranty

Cons

  • None

10th Best Ruger 10/22 Stock – What recent users say?

Many users, for several reasons, loved this stock. But most significantly, the simple adjustability that this stock has, they could not help but praise.

This was purchased by several consumers as a substitute for their fixed stocks.

Before buying and installing this, about half of them had struggled with their rifle’s pull duration.

So far, they have said that it has done a wonderful job of helping them to handle their weapons with ease and effectiveness and get a shot off.

What makes it one of the best Ruger 10/22 Stock?

In terms of quality, this stock is super robust and there is an explanation why that is.

A stock that is not manufactured from some ordinary polymer is what you are looking at.

It is made of a glass-reinforced polymer manufactured by DuPont at high temperatures.

It is pretty damn tough in plain English. Perhaps we should go as far as to suggest it’s indestructible.

This will deal with all kinds of shock, decrease recoil, and will be impervious to all kinds of damage.

You can brush your gun and have oil and solvent on it and, like a standard wood stock, it won’t even warp or crack in the least.

If you want superior reliability, which may be the best in the business, this could be the stock you want.

Would you want to have your 10/22 look outside of this world? Try this stock then.

For a while, AT has been baffling the industry with its aesthetically pleasing and economical products.

For the Ruger 10/22, they have come up with an outstanding aftermarket supply this time.

The stock has about every trait that you will possibly like in one.

To begin with, this stock was made from fiberglass, which is actually, in our humble view, the best material for stock development.

It is immune to warping and elevated temperatures. It has an interchangeable stock of six positions that matches the ones on an AR.

In addition, the stock is foldable, enabling the rifle to be shipped rapidly and conveniently.

In the event that your local laws do not authorize a longer rifle, the foldable component is still detachable, so that’s obviously a bonus.

With one four-inch Picatinny rail on the front, four 2-inch Picatinny rails on the sides and the top of the shield, the stock is also interchangeable.

This enables you to mount as many accessories as you like, without the need for any upgrades or external mounts.

For unused rails, the kit often contains blank covers, so the place doesn’t appear odd. It also has a flexible and customizable cheek rest, and a removable butt pad that is non-slip.

Better power over the rifle is provided by the ergonomic and textured pistol grip.

To encourage you to install slings as you wish, it also has three sling swivel studs.

The stock is immune to scratching and is weatherproof. In addition, it is simple to install, which is a bonus.

For whom is this 10/22 Ruger Stock best suited?

If you’re searching for a super sturdy, conveniently customizable stock that will make your Ruger 10/22 a ton more fun to use, then the cake will be taken from this stock.

You’ll be shocked at what this stock will do performance-wise after you mount this.

And it could be the only one for a long time that you’ve ever purchased for a 10/22.

How durable it is, that’s it.

Verdict: 10th Best Ruger 10/22 Stock

Without doubt, the ATI Strikeforce Customizable Stock is one of the most durable and simplest stocks on the globe to change.

This could easily, and for a few good reasons, be one of the top-selling 10/22 stocks out there.

If you want superior consistency and reliability that will hold you well under charge, why on Earth will you say no to a stock like this?

For your current 10/22 stock, the stock from AT is an outstanding and full substitute. In addition to providing absolute adjustability, it is compatible with all Ruger 10/22 versions.

Plus, the organisation issues a lifelong guarantee, which protects the back.

Benefits of stocks from the aftermarket

While they are used in their standard form for many shooters and hunters, the specification is well adapted to customization and the first component replaced by most shooters is the factory birch or nylon buttstock.

Machined by Ruger’s factory to exact tolerances, these rifles very seldom need thorough hand fitting to mount fresh stocks the way most other rifles do.

This is a positive thing, since good stocks of rifles must be reliable.

The trigger or barrel can be a good rifle’s heart and soul, but what gives a rifle its strength is the buttstock.

It couldn’t be any simpler to mount an aftermarket stock.

The shooter easily removes the barrel band and action screw and removes the barrel action from the old stock.

The shooter may choose to have the rifle’s action bedded into the new buttstock at this point or simply drop it down, adjust the screw and mount the barrel band optionally.

Bedding refers to utilizing a compound of fiberglass bedding to guarantee that the motion of the weapon is true and consistent throughout the buttstock’s body.

Some shooters take it a step further, in addition to the action, by bedding the barrel, but it is not recommended.

The barrel vibrates almost like a tuning fork as a projectile passes down the rifle’s bore.

Bedding upsets this normal harmonic from the barrel to the stock.

By ensuring that no part of the stock has any contact with it, most shooters choose to free float the barrel.

This can be measured on a .22 rim fire rifle like the Ruger 10/22 by seeing how a one dollar bill would match as far back as the action between the muzzle and the stock.

This is the same explanation that many shooters do not keep their rifles with the barrel band installed.

What are 10/22 Ruger stocks produced from?

Ruger 10/22 stocks, including carbon fiber, are manufactured from timber, nylon / polymer, fiberglass, and polymer composites.

Both these products are actually being used for stock production.

Each has its own pros and cons, and with regard to the 10/22 rifle, we will analyze them.

Polymer Stocks

Let’s get the polymer started. Polymer-made stocks are lightweight and very inexpensive to make.

That’s why a number of them are seen around you.

But under temperature and pressure, these stocks are vulnerable to expansion and warping, so don’t consider them to be unstoppable.

Timber material

On the other side, wooden stocks are a safer alternative relative to silicone stocks.

Under heat, these stocks do not warp and therefore help to increase the overall precision of your weapon.

But wood tends to be susceptible to moisture, humidity, and heat.

Stock from Laminate

In addition, it takes a lot of extra care if you have a good looking laminate stock.

The next, perhaps the most significant, material in the business is fiberglass.

It is lightweight , durable, and prevents any other wood and polymer based problems. In a broad range of styles and sizes, fiberglass stocks are accessible, so you are sure to find a good one for you.

Stock from Carbon Fiber

Carbon fiber is the final and most rare material used for manufacturing stocks.

It has the strength of steel and the weight of a polymer, making it suitable for the job.

Final Verdict

The 10/22 rifle is a fantastic rifle, but often it is not cut by the stocks that come from the factory and you need an aftermarket buttstock for your requirements.

That’s where we think you will be helped with this post. Every one of the top 10/22 aftermarket stock options for you have been listed.

You may also check out our page if you would like to add a personalized barrel to your 10/22.

As it also comes with a stock, you may also be interested in a 10/22 chassis.

Ruger 10/22 Competition in test: What can the small caliber self-loading gun from the Ruger Custom Shop do?

The young Ruger Custom Shop not only sells large-caliber pistols and revolvers, but also fine small-caliber self-loading rifles that promise lots of shooting fun.

What happens when one of the world’s most famous KK self-loading rifles meets the in-house custom store?

We have tested a Ruger 10/22 Competition.

One of the world’s most successful small caliber semi-automatic rifles is known to be the Ruger 10/22 model, which has been built in huge numbers since 1964 until today and for which specialized retrofit parts are offered by countless tuning companies.

It is a pleasure to see that for example a Ruger 10/22 Carbine with burnished plastic stock changes hands for only 320,- Dollar.

The match version from the Custom Shop presented here is already sinfully expensive with a purchase price of 1.012,- Dollar.

The other two 10/22 Competition models from the Ruger Custom Shop with differently contoured laminated wood shafts are even more expensive at 1,145 Dollar and 1,151 Dollar.

But you should also consider that then again high-bred match rifles on 10/22 basis from renowned tuning companies like Volquartsen Firearms cost twice as much (see caliber 1/2019).

So what can one expect from the KK self-loading rifles of the original manufacturer’s upper price range?

The Ruger 10/22 Competition in detail

The heart of the weapon is a system box made of a 6061 T6 wrought aluminium alloy, which makes this material an ALMgSi alloy.

Although the strength is not as high as that of the 7075 T6 aluminum alloy, the 6061 is much easier to cold form.

The aluminum alloy 7075 T6 is often used for system housings of AR-15 rifles.

For a rimfire weapon this alloy is not necessary and therefore Ruger’s material selection is certainly suitable.

The CNC machined breech housing was heat treated, stress relieved and anodized.

The integral optics mounting rail on the top of the system box was milled out of the light metal block.

Just like the Picatinny rail of the Ruger Rimfire Precision repeater rifle (see our presentation at mysqltuner.com and for the caliber 7-8/2018 test), it has a 30-MOA forward tilt, so that the rifleman has sufficient range of height adjustment even at longer distances.

However, in our latitudes, small caliber rifles are rarely used to shoot beyond the 100-meter mark.

Inside, a ground shutter does its job. A cold hammered, 410 millimeter long, fluted bull barrel match barrel with classic AR-15 muzzle thread is stored in the light metal system box ½”x28 UNEF.

The Ruger 10/22 Competition comes with a muzzle brake, but other muzzle attachments or silencers can also be retrofitted.

The plywood stock, painted in a black-grey speckled design, has an adjustable cheek piece rest that can be moved vertically and horizontally, ensuring a relaxed head position when shooting with riflescopes.

Complete equipment: What the Custom Shop 10/22 has to offer

The small rifle is rounded off by a Ruger BX match trigger, which had a measured trigger weight of 1,280 grams with clean characteristics with minimum failure distance and positive reset (“trigger reset”).

Enlarged operating elements such as the loading lever, magazine release and safety push button improve the handling characteristics, which is particularly advantageous in dynamic shooting disciplines where the time factor also plays a role.

Ruger has simplified the maintenance of the 10/22

Another clever feature of the Ruger 10/22 Competition from the custom store is the “disassembly position”, which makes maintenance and care of the KK match rifle easier.

But before you can see this, the system must first be freed from the stock.

For this, two system screws on the underside of the lacquered wooden stock have to be loosened.

With its large, straight surfaces, the system box lies firmly in the stock.

As we expected from a custom store gun, the main components were matched with minimal play.

If you now hold the system in your hands, the trigger system can be taken out after removing the fixing bolts.

If you now pull the loading lever including the breech to the rear, you reach the disassembly position.

With a little pressure downwards you can hold the breech, the spring guide rod, the closing spring and also the cocking lever as single components in your hand.

This way you can clean every component perfectly.

When reassembling you should then follow the correct sequence: First the spring is pushed onto the guide rod and then it is positioned in the system box.

Then the loading lever comes through the ejection window and the guide rod is pushed through it.

Now the rod can be inserted in its notch. Then the loading lever is pulled backwards. It must be pulled back until the breech with the corresponding recess can be inserted again from above.

Sounds complicated, but the necessary steps can be done in a few minutes.

With the Ruger 10/22 Competition in .22 l.r. on the shooting range

Equipped with Leupold PRW2 mounting rings, Sightron 6-24×50 SIII Long Range Tactical riflescope and UTG bipod, we moved to the shooting range with the compact Ruger 10/22 Competition.

The cheek piece adjustment mechanism adopted from the Ruger Precision Rifle (RPR) series facilitated an ideal setting for a precise shot.

According to the manufacturer’s specifications, the cartridge bearing of the barrel was also modified in order to optimize the feeding and extracting process of the cartridges/cases.

We can only report that the small KK semi-automatic machine digested every type of ammunition without complaint and even with intensive shooting without cleaning there were no malfunctions to complain about.

This rifle did not react sensitively to dirt. With the right cartridge, the custom store specimen can be used to punch really small stray circles into the target, which need not hide behind the results of small caliber repeater rifles.

So we realized with the RWS 100 match cartridge an 8 millimeter group at 50 meters.

12 millimeters was the scattering circle that we were able to produce with the RWS pistol match ammunition.

However, we also achieved respectable results with ammunition types such as the Federal Target Champion, which costs just 5 Dollar per pack, and is cheaper than the RWS 100 Match.

With this cartridge, which is ideally suited for training, we achieved a 14 millimeter scattering circle.

The conclusion on the KK semi-automatic machine from Ruger

It is not without reason that the Ruger 10/22 is one of the most popular small caliber self loading rifles in the world.

With the models from the in-house tuning forge, the young classic is refined in detail once again.

With adjustable stock, match trigger, match barrel and sophisticated equipment, a lot of shooting fun with convincing performance is guaranteed.

Compared to the standard models, which are already available for a little more than 300 Dollar, you have to dig deeper into your pocket.

Because our test model presented here costs 1.012,- Dollar, but in our opinion it is worth every cent.
